Shubhra Designs At Boston Fashion Week

Fall 2014 brought Boston Fashion Week to our city along with some warm weather, glorious colors and some rain. Shubhra Bhattacharya Chandra, founder of has been showing small collections during fashion week for several years.

This year was special as it was the 5 year wedding anniversary of one of her special bridal clients and friend- Sorboni Banerjee of Fox 25 News and her husband Jarrod Holbrook. Lokvani had published an article about their wedding ensembles designed exclusively by the designer for their October 11th wedding in New Hampshire. Sorboni and Jarrod decided to walk the informal ramp for Shubrah's show at Tantric, Boston wearing what they got married in! It was a lot of fun! The designs were made with Indian/ Bengali hand loomed silk sari and scarf fabrics for Sorboni's wedding outfits and Jarrod's vest, tie and pocket square. The groomsmen, brides maids and mother of the bride also wore designs by Shubrah. Shreeya Chandra (the designer's daughter and the flower girl at their wedding) decided to complete the cycle at the fashion show by giving flowers to Sorboni at the end of her ramp walk!

Fen Tung and David Lee helped the designer find models and mix the music for the hour long show. Subhash and Srila (owners of Tantric), generously shared the space for the show. The models were all local Boston are college and high school students who enjoyed walking in the fusion fashions created by Shubrah. Special thanks to Saatvik Ahluwalia and Meaghan Cassidy! A major round of applause and thanks for all their hard work to make this show a success.

There was a round of sari drapes by Shubrah on the models in creative new ways to make the sari go from traditional to instant evening wear! Beats any cocktail gown!

The rest of the designs were short and long dresses, jackets and men's shirts made with hand made silks and recycled saris. will be having a Holiday trunk show and sale from Nov 10th to Nov 16th, 2014. Please email the designer for appointments. Exclusive one-of-a kind dresses that are not yet on the website are on sale.

Jewelry was provided by Syna's collection and TV Asia along with other press, was present at the show on Oct 11th.

Talking about the upcoming show
Shubhra said "My twenty year design career has been all about understanding the customer and what she wants to wear. Making her look unique while adhering to my design principals, for my sustainable business today. I have been doing a show for Boston Fashion Week every year since I started  I want to thank my friends at Tantric for giving us the space for the show. I also want to thank all the student models for walking the ramp for BFW. My designs are all about recycling Indian handwoven silk and cotton fabrics and creating fashions in western silhouettes. One of my famous clients, Sorboni Bannerjee of Fox News 25 will be walking the ramp, with her husband. The story goes like this. Sorboni and Jarrod Holbrook got married on Oct 11th, five years ago. Stay tuned!"
