April 2012- Earth Day

Central Park in bloom
April brings the start of the flowering, budding, greening and blooming of all the vegetation in New England. During our mini break to Connecticut and New York City we decided to honor the wonderful greenery around us. First stop was the American Natural History Museum in NYC. Amazing to see the exhibits that have been created so painstakingly. Hand painted backgrounds to duplicate habitats and species from bygone eras. We paid our tribute to nature in this indoor setting and then stepping out into the brilliant sunlight, we walked into Central Park. The trees and flowers were in full bloom everywhere and people were sitting on rocks, walking the various paths and heading towards the boathouse and Bethesda fountain. Included are some pictures our travels to find nature in one of the world's busiest cities.

Take me back to Boston, heard it's greener than NYC!

Back in Boston, we were invited to showcase our business by through Graduate School of Design at the i-lab in a panel discussion. The topic was Environmentally conscious entrepreneurial ventures in the Boston area. The panelists were from various organizations like Slow Money, Green Goat etc. Our designs were showcased and I was part of the panel as well. It was a wonderful way to celebrate Earth day or Earth Week!

We are making some updates to our site, namely to the Bridal designs, so stay tuned for more news.

Warm weather and Spring 2012

Sudden summer like temperatures in the middle of March is unusual in New England, specially when we were covered in a foot of snow this time last year! In preparation for Spring break, graduations, proms and weddings coming up in the next few months, our plans are to expand the site with wedding related offerings. New styles will be on display at the INE Bridal show at the Ritz Carlton, Boston for potential brides and grooms who are planning on a fusion wedding. We are also doing a workshop on "Fusion Weddings- colors, inspiration, ideas and the designing process" for this event. This will further explore the concept of the east meets west wedding, where couples are considering blending not only their families traditional rituals but also working through the clothing, food, decorations, music, etc of the entire event. Tasteful, sophisticated and custom designed for a modern take on weddings.

Meanwhile, we have a wonderful new collection of recycled cotton saris and tops for the fashion show on April 5th at the Liberty Hotel, Boston. Saris were donated by my cousin in Delhi. Great music form the house DJ and superb drinks at Boston's quintessential watering hole, are the hallmarks of this thursday night event that starts at 10 p.m and goes late into the night. With spring break around the corner, this is the time to stock up on your recycled cotton dresses to wear to that special restaurant on the beach or a night out on the town.

All about ikat!
Geometric ikat patterns are all the rage. Here we have them in recycled silk sari kurtas

May will bring flowers, graduations, proms and wedding prep. Our site has a wealth of great styles, for men, women and home, along with ideas for gift giving, etc. We are designing bridesmaids dresses for two fusion weddings, one in June and one in August of this year. Both are with a similar theme, solid color two-toned silk with Indian sari borders using a western silhouette. If you are looking for unique gifts or fashions for the events you will be attending this spring, our site is a wonderful place to shop!

Our sale in May will coincide with Lexington Open Studios, so mark your calendar for this exciting sale - May 18th to 20th.

Here's to a great spring season!

February Winter Break and Delhi

February brought no snow, sunshine and travels from Boston to Delhi. The weather was mild every where and plenty of beautiful flowers were in bloom and for display in Delhi. The wedding season was on in full swing and limos are vying with horses in the Capital, decorated to the hilt. Couple of the hot spots that we were able to hit - the Blue Room at the Taj and the evergreen Delhi Gymkhana. The outdoor venue of the Blue Room is stunning with a neon blue pool reflected against that green lawns and palm trees, massive white candles every where to light up the darkness. Fireworks at a wedding on the premises lit up the winter night sky, adding more color in this very colorful country.

Scouring the markets of Delhi for silks, antique sari borders and new ideas, working with clients for fusion wedding dresses brought back to me the vital connection between east and west. Eastern craftsmanship, color and opulence combined with western precision, modern lines and technology. A winning world. We have a few interesting shows and events coming up.

  • March 31st, catch us at the DeCordova Museum, at the LEF fundraiser. Shubrah.com designs will be auctioned during the evening.
  • April 1st we will be at the India New England Bridal show at the Ritz-Carlton in Boston. Hope to see you all there.
  • April 5th, we will be doing our fashion show at the Liberty Hotel in Boston. Be there and be Fashionably LATE.

Outdoor spaces are a wonderful place for weddings or for
catching up with old friends!

Delhi was in the midst of yet another wedding season!
That meant fireworks on the lawns by the pool!
The bride and groom had arrived at the hotel in a stretch limo covered in pink roses and white lilies! Only in India!

Outdoor spaces in Delhi take on an opulent and modern look.
The Blue Room at the Delhi Taj is an indoor bar and an outdoor oasis! Wish all watering holes were like this!

If you still have not given someone flowers or chocolates for Valentines, here's another very thoughtful and healthy idea! Say it with fruits! A friend send me this basket for V-day and the guilt free snacking went on for a few days!

Enjoy the photos from Delhi.

January and a new 2012!

Planning in these rocky times is akin to gazing into a crystal ball. Will it a better year, financially? Is the weather going to be less turbulent? Are you going to get promoted or find a new job? Will we all exercise more, eat more organic foods and feel healthier? Who will you vote for? What causes will inspire you the most? Are we all going to become more involved in our local communities, give back and do some good globally? We would like to thank all our supporters and friends in the past few years who have helped spread the word, shopped our sales and referred us to friends. We could not have survived in these rough economic times without your help, a big THANK YOU for all your generosity of spirit, time and money! Our goal this year is to spread the word to reach more clients and people who are interested in fusion and eco-friendly fashions. Help us reach more bridal clients who are looking for something unique and fusion, custom designed to their needs.

We are designing our Spring/Summer collection currently as well as a fusion wedding this summer. We are very excited to be part of this wedding as it is going to take place on one our favorite Boston area beaches. More later once the wedding is done and we have sketches and photos to upload.
